Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT)
It’s amazing what technology has changed in just the past few years as it relates to drying techniques. At one time, the industry blanketed the concept of “suck it up, apply something to make it smell better, and then put out a few fans to help it dry”. Even today, this is the norm for a majority of the companies. Unfortunately, that mindset of contractors, mitigation companies, and the insurance industry is what has led to major lawsuits as well as development of courses such as Mold Remediation.
Why should someone that has
been handling water losses for many years attend this course?
The below items are but a small list of what will be learned in class
with the latest technology in knowledge, instrumentation, and inspections.

Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT/S)
This four-day course is designed to be a hands-on in-depth learning experience and provides professional restorers with the necessary tools to perform mold and sewage remediation. Mold contamination has been identified as a major contributor to building related illness and poor indoor air quality. Without proper mitigation of a water loss, mold can become a problem in less than 48 hours.
In addition to mold issues, the effects and handling of sewage backflow have become major concerns for the restoration industry. The IICRC S500 Standard, which outlines remediation procedures for sewage back-flows, has changed the way restorers must deal with “Gray” and “Black” water losses. This course includes hands-on training in our permanent built-in facility.
Hands-on training will be at least 20% of the course including, but not limited to, each student being a member of a team that is no larger than eight (8) students. All students will participate in each of the following:
Erecting containment, including mini-containment and demonstrating the principle of decontamination chambers
Temporary containment (such as zip walls), critical barriers, Z-flap or double flap or triple flap doors, to install floor sheet(s), erect wall sheet(s), ceiling sheet, using necessary materials and supplies
Establishing and monitoring negative pressure and managing airflow in each of the containment areas
Demolition of drywall with simulated microbial contamination (including dust control methods)
HEPA vacuuming and cleaning procedures
Removal of simulated mold from wood studs
Donning and doffing of PPE
Containment (bagging) of contaminated materials |
We have an extremely litigious society today leading to mold issues being brought to the surface of lawsuits. These suits are primarily due to untrained contractors, improper drying with water damage restoration companies, and insurance industry personnel that may not have a sense of understanding of total dry down procedures. In addition, there is heightened awareness of property owners today in these issues.
